Indigenous Health Symposium

8th of July, 2020
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

In NAIDOC Week 2020, this special event will address key health issues affecting Australia’s Aboriginal communities, while looking at the future of Aboriginal paediatric care through practice, research and cultural determinants.

This event will profile the pathways taken by Aboriginal health workers, and the contributions they make to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, and increasing community awareness of health factors.

What is intergenerational trauma, and do we acknowledge these experiences by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people? Do we recognise the impact that witnessing pervasive health inequities and poor health outcomes of Aboriginal people has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforces?

An opportunity to rethink assumptions about Aboriginal health to ensure a better system for the future, these conversations will be led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals in clinical psychology, paediatrics, and traditional healing.

Explore themes of impact and engagement, discover interweaving strands of capacity of research and its transformative capabilities, and reimagine practice, procedures and relationships for Australia’s Indigenous communities.
