Wednesday 9 September 2020 marks 150 years of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne.
In 1870 Doctors Smith and Singleton had a vision to help sick and injured children – free of all charge. They, together with a volunteer Ladies Committee worked hard to raise the funds needed to establish the hospital, opening its doors on 9 September 1870 with just six beds.
The RCH has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the world’s great hospitals for children. It’s a story of thousands of heroes (celebrated and unknown) whose tenacity and commitment has created a much-loved institution, with a place in the heart of all Victorians. Together, we are all a part of something special, and regardless of where you are on this historic day, we would like to invite you to celebrate with us.
